Vital peer support groups feature in national film about suicide prevention

A new film ‘The Power of Peer Support in Suicide Prevention’ shares the experiences of three organisations providing essential mental health peer support in Scotland.

The film was developed in collaboration with Scottish Recovery Network and Suicide Prevention Scotland as part of the Creating Hope with Peer Support project and wider Scottish Government and COSLA Creating Hope Together Suicide Prevention Strategy.

It highlights the voices and experiences of peer workers from The Hive Kirkcaldy, a community hub for LGBTQIA+ people in Fife, LATNEM, peer support for mums and birthing people across Scotland, and Men United, peer support for men in the North East of Scotland. Together they demonstrate the vital and unique contribution peer support makes to suicide prevention, particularly amongst communities that face high suicide risk.

Creating Hope with Peer Support is a national project led by Scottish Recovery Network. We partner with people and communities across the country to focus on embedding peer support as a vital part of suicide prevention. It’s a key part of the Scottish Government’s Creating Hope Together 10-year strategic vision for Scotland.  This new report marks the first three years of the Creating Hope with Peer Support suicide prevention project.

Whilst the Creating Hope with Peer Support project facilitates workshops and supports learning, providing resources and amplifying lived experience, it is the people we work with who drive real change: peer workers, groups, organisations and services across the country.
